For thirty years I taught elementary school and had the privilege of seeing the world through the eyes of six and seven year olds.  Daily doses of hugs, laughter, and the pure joy of learning always brought me back to a classroom where days were rewarding and sometimes challenging.   The year 2005 brought a new challenge.  I was retiring and had no idea what I would do the next year when there would be no classroom waiting with my name on the door.  Even though an end was coming to a long career, I felt excitement as I knew God would have something else wonderful for me.

My daughter had attended Camp Oak Hill for two years, but I knew very little about it.  My sister, Kim Patterson, Business Director at that time, asked me if I would like to volunteer that summer.  I said “Yes”, not knowing that I had just opened that door to God’s new plan for me.  Volunteering evolved into part time employment where I am now the Administrative Assistant in the Raleigh Business Office.

I now get to witness the hugs, laughter, and joy of children as they experience God’s love in a camp environment.   Being retired is a memory.  Being “refired” is part of my new adventure with God.
